About Me
Hi there! I'm Joshuelle (pronounced jaw-shoe-elle). I'm a passionate and committed Birth and Postpartum Doula and Yoga Instructor.
My care is rooted in the powers of: the sciences, oral-tradition, spirituality and community. In my 4 years of working as a doula, I have learned that anything is possible, and everything can be supported and positively impacted by having a reliable resources and a trusted support system. I adore collaborating with midwives, doctors and nurses that share the client-focused care model. In addition to using tried-and-true methods of support, I pride myself on being adaptable and finding creative ways to help folks cope with labour, and thrive during the postpartum period. I find storytelling to be an especially powerful learning tool, and encourage my clients to read and listen to positive birth and postpartum stories. I also prioritize connecting folks with other caregivers including: Pelvic Floor Physiotherapists, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, Lactation Consultants and more. Community is paramount |
Why did I become a doula? I come from a close-knit family of smart, fierce, warm, nurturing and funny people. Since childhood, I've had to privilege of listening to the deeply personal stories of my mother, grandmother, aunts, sisters and cousins. Their experiences imparted in me a rich understanding of women's health from puberty to menopause!
While completing a degree in Biochemistry from Western, I also studied physiology, anatomy, human sexuality, genetics, reproduction and health sciences. As I prepared for medical school I discovered that our healthcare system wouldn't allow me to engage with pregnant and postpartum families in a way that builds rapport and honours their mental, emotional, social, spiritual, vocational, financial, and environmental health. Relationships and holistic wellness are very important to me, so, I pursued an alternative, and was overjoyed to discover traditional birth and postpartum care.
Before diving in to my doula journey, I worked in the customer service and restaurant industries and honed my abilities to move swiftly and calmly. Many would say that I'm great at sensing the energies at play, and responding with ways to create a safer space like: listening and holding your hand, offering alternatives to an intervention, or simply making you laugh.
At my core I know that welcoming babies into the world is sacred and requires the most robust and unconditional support.
I'm so honoured to hold space for new life, and support folks from conception to cradle.
Thank you for visiting 🙏🏾
